The Monstrosity is…

The Monstrosity is open, New Street Bridge that is, and its about time as it was supposed to be finished before Christmas. I just hope its a VERY long time before a boat goes under it (or sooner if a boat goes INTO it ) Still no Dabchick, Coot or Stifflegs, I think they are [...]

I have not seen the…

I have not seen the Dabchick lately, the Coot is also absent as were the 2 swans today. I did have another very good, and long, look at the female Kingfisher (see also below). I have also not seen ‘Stiff Legs’ for a few days, but he went *missing* last year for over a month. [...]

Today was different…

Today was different in a very good way. I first of all saw the 2 swans, then the Kingfisher on the Old Slea and then saw the Coot for the first time in weeks. Walking past where I saw the Weasel I saw a Water Rail, and here is an extremely bad photo of it… [...]

Another Duck killed by a dog…

One of the Car Park Attendants told me that he witnessed a dog kill a Duck on the Slea over the weekend It just amazes me the way some owners just do not seem to care I had another good view of the Kingfisher today, but when Monstrosity Bridge opens (yes it is STILL closed) [...]

OK, here is a better one…

OK, here is a better one, the orange on the underside of the beak show its a female, males are black… Terry PS forgot in the last post to also say that we saw a Kestrel and Heron past the Mill today also.

Lucky Friday 13th…

Lucky Friday 13th as we had outstanding views of a Kingfisher for over an hour. Although not a particularly good photo, I picked this one to post as the Kingfisher had just caught breakfast, I will post a better one in a couple of days time… …also saw the 2 swans and Paul said he [...]

Interesting day… (+ UPDATE)

Interesting day, I saw the two swans Graham mentioned and took a photo of both of their left hand side beaks so that I can try and see if they have been on the Slea before, I will post my finding either later today or possible tomorrow. I saw the Dabchick near Monstrosity Bridge and [...]

An Interesting day…

An Interesting day as I saw about 5 Long Tailed Tits in the trees near the LC Bridge, I then saw a Weasel near to the Mill in about the same place as I saw one last year (or the year before ?), perhaps it was related there was also a Sparrowhawk in the field [...]

Dabchick is…

The Dabchick is still around, I also saw 2 Kingfishers chasing each other, I am not sure if this was territory fights (2 males) or courtship (1 male and 1 female) but it was nice to see. Stifflegs was also around and I think I also saw Tube Duck. No sign of the Coot though, [...]

Interestingly today I saw…

Interestingly today I saw a Kingfisher fly UNDER the new Monstrosity Bridge and then I saw 3 mallards fly THROUGH Monstrosity Bridge but pedestrians can still not walk across it. I also saw the Dabchick which I had personally not seen for over a week. The Coot was nowhere to be seen but I am [...]

It was c-o-l-d this morning…

It was cold this morning but I was cheered when I saw a Coot near the Mill, and when the Coot saw me he started to come towards me, so I think this is probably the same Coot as was here during 2008. He got what he was looking for – some food I didn’t [...]

Amazing…

Amazing view of the Kingfisher today I watched for almost 10 minutes and saw him dive and catch a fish twice I also saw Stiff Legs and Tube Duck but didnt see the Dabchick or anything else unusual. Dick told me that he saw a Dabchick yesterday along the stretch of the Slea that goes [...]

Still no sign…

Still no sign of Graham’s duck so perhaps it has flown. Not much else happening, Mel and I went past the railway bridge to the ‘pond’ but nothing there except we heard a Woodpecker but didn’t see it. The Dabchick was still around as can be seen here… Terry PS a couple of men were [...]

I did not see Grahams duck…

I did not see Graham’s duck this morning so do not know it it has gone or not. I did see the Kingfisher dive for a fish and return to its branch It does not look like any work has been done to Monstrosity Bridge since it was put in place and will probably be [...]

Its still a bit of a…

Its still a bit of a monstrosity – the new Bridge that is. I was told (but have no other ‘proof’) that the Health and Safety people are concerned about the Bridge not being level. I think this must mean from ‘side to side’ because it has a hump in the middle which I presume [...]
