Not much…
Not much happening today, I didnt see a Kingfisher or ‘Stiff Legs’ but I did see our Dabchick who is still mainly hiding in the reeds. This picture of one of the white ducks is especially for Enid… Terry
The Dabchick…
The Dabchick is still around but still have not seen the Coot for quite a while now. I did see ‘stiff legs’ and the Kingfisher going upstream towards the leisure centre which is unusual in that particular place. Here is a close up of one of the Slea ‘lady’ ducks… Terry
I think we may have three…
I think we may have three Kingfishers I certainly saw two chasing each other downstream of the Mill and there is sometimes one where the old Slea branches off near the leisure centre. Anyway even if its just two we are seeing them quite often at the moment I have not seen the Coot for [...]
The results are back…
The results are back from the Lab regarding what caused the waterlogging of the Ducks, Dabchicks etc, they do need to be interpreted and understood but hopefully by the end of the week we should know more. I didnt see any duck with an obvious problem today near the Hub, this can a little misleading [...]
I am now not sure if…
I am now not sure if the Dabchick that arrived a few days ago is one of our originals or not ? All of ‘ours’ were very used to people and would not be to nervous about going to the side of the river where people were, but this one is a bit more cautious [...]
We had a report of two MINK
We had a report of two MINK downstream of Cogglesford Mill over the weekend, thankfully after a bit of talking about identity/recognition we think it was a case of mistaken identity and was actually Stoats. About 3 years ago we had Mink nest in the Mill and they caused quite a bit of damage to [...]
What did ‘Eagle Eyed’ Barbara see this morning…
What did ‘Eagle Eyed’ Barbara see this morning, this…. …which was a VERY pleasant surprise. He/she was where our Dabchicks nested so I am as sure as can be that at least one of our adults survived I wonder where he/she has been over the last few weeks ? The Coot was also back after [...]
There was still one Mallard…
There was still one Mallard that was waterlogged on the green by the Hub, I informed the E.A. who said they would pass the message on to the RSPCA. No Tufties today, I assume they have flown off somewhere, they may be back but there again they may not be. I also didnt see the [...]
Not much happening today…
Not much happening today but I did see the two Tufties and the Coot and all was well with them. There is still more ducks than normal on the Hub green so it looks like some of them are still affected, but the number seems to get smaller each day. I have been told by [...]
There was one Tufty…
There was one Tufty on the Slea near where the old river branches off as he has been for the last few days when I have been walking past, another one was on Lollycocks pond just like on Monday. Graham saw two Tufties near the Mill on Monday evening, were these different Tufties or the [...]
At last, a little bit of good news…
At last, a little bit of good news, our lone Tufty was on the Slea this morning but he isnt now our ‘lone’ Tufty as there was another one on Lollycocks pond Now, not surprisingly, I cant actually identify individual Tufties but I am as sure as I can be that he is ‘one of [...]
Things are improving but there are still…
Things are improving but there are still some Mallards on the Hub green that are waterlogged, I spoke to the E.A. this morning to see if there is any update on the test that have been carried out (not yet) and to say there were some Mallards still in need of attention, the E.A. said [...]
Things are a bit better BUT…
Things are a bit better on the Slea today BUT there are still quite a few affected Ducks on the green outside the Hub. Although some of these look ok when dry they still get waterlogged when they go in the water, however there are certainly more ducks on the water now that show no [...]
If the ducks in the water look ok…
If the ducks in the water look ok then I think they are probably ok and not suffering from loss of oil on their feathers, and there did seem more ducks in the water this morning. However I saw 2 ducks out of the water who looked fine, but when they went into the water [...]
There were a lot of…
There were a lot of waterlogged Ducks this morning, more than yesterday and I also saw 2 dead Ducks on the green by the Hub and these were reported to the E.A. who said they would pass on the message to the RSPCA. If these two Ducks are retrieved I wonder if the cause of [...]
