A little while ago I mentioned that I thought we had had a visit by 2 ‘extra’ swans other than the 2 that have been seen on and off lately. I have now been told that someone witnessed all 4 swans on the slea and that 2 took off and chased each other and then eventually the 2 ‘new’ swans went on their way, the Slea isnt really suitable for a nesting pair of swans (there are no reasonable nesting sites between the Hub and the Mill) let alone 2 pairs.
I have not seen the white duck that recently arrived with another duck, see Tuesday 26 January entry, so I am hoping that the white one is a ‘she’ and is nesting somewhere, we will only know if ‘she’ is seen again with ducklings. Speaking of which I saw 3 yesterday, if the nights remain frost free then they may stand a chance of surviving.
