I saw only 3 of the originally 6 baby Moorhens dowstream of the LC bridge today, both parents were there so I think the other 3 have been ‘lost’. Then there were only 6 of the 8 babies further downstream and then only 7 of the 8 near the Mill. I also saw only 2 of the 3 baby Moorhens on Lollycocks Pond, but there were hard to see in the reeds so it is possible that the other one was also there. So it seems we have lost quite a few babies over the last few days
I then LAUGHED out LOUD, the New Lifting Bridge at New Street had been put in the up position (I assume for testing purposes) and it is now STUCK there and the workmen couldnt get it back down. I would prefer for it to stick in its down position, but you cant have everything
Gannet…

…no not on the Slea but at Bempton Cliffs last week.

Made me smile – bridge stuck in up position – typical Lol! Saw familly with six really dark ducklings at Digby Beck – you have to be so careful as they are always on road!! We have 6 (yes six!) Gold finches that visit our garden everymorning and couple of bluetits, greenfinches, and the usual dunnocks, hedge sparrows. Have seen thrushes and blackbirds with young dancing on the lawn looking for worms. At work it’s wonderful at about 4.45am standing outside and listening to the dawn chorus the song thrush is amazing and you are just completely surrounded by trees which sound as if they have amplifiers in them – no other noise but the birds. Hope you are well and keep up the good reporting and fantastic pics x
Hi Angie, good to hear from you and thanks for the news which is most appreciated.
Its also good to know that someone else is amused by the New Street Bridge jamming although I know your dad probably wasn’t when he found it ‘up’ and had to go around it on Thursday.
