October 31, 2008

The Swan was still on…

The Swan was still on Lollycocks pond, or to put it more correctly, on the banks of Lollycocks pond, and having a sleep. The Coot was also still there and the Dabchick was in the reeds on the Slea as usual. Another reflection shot of a duck… Terry

The Swan was…

The Swan was on Lollycocks pond this morning, he/she has some marks on its neck so it has been fighting, probably chased off from somewhere and ended up on the Slea. The Coot was also still on the pond and the Dabchick was, as normal, in the reeds. Not from the Slea but from...

The Swan is back…

The Swan is back and here he/she is having a bath this morning… …I do not think we have seen this Swan on the Slea before as he seems young, probably just over a year old (2007 cygnet), as he has not got a very big ‘knob’ at the top of his beak which...

The Dabchick…

The Dabchick is still around but still have not seen the Coot for quite a while now. I did see ‘stiff legs’ and the Kingfisher going upstream towards the leisure centre which is unusual in that particular place. Here is a close up of one of the Slea ‘lady’ ducks… Terry

I think we may have three…

I think we may have three Kingfishers I certainly saw two chasing each other downstream of the Mill and there is sometimes one where the old Slea branches off near the leisure centre. Anyway even if its just two we are seeing them quite often at the moment I have not seen the Coot...

The results are back…

The results are back from the Lab regarding what caused the waterlogging of the Ducks, Dabchicks etc, they do need to be interpreted and understood but hopefully by the end of the week we should know more. I didnt see any duck with an obvious problem today near the Hub, this can a little...

I am now not sure if the Dabchick that arrived a few days ago is one of our originals or not ? All of ‘ours’ were very used to people and would not be to nervous about going to the side of the river where people were, but this one is a bit more...
