There has been for some time a third adult Dabchick seen near Quackers
Today just past New Street bridge I heard the unmistakable call of 2 Dabchicks calling each other, so today there were 4 adult Dabchicks on the Slea, these two and our pair with the 4 babies downstream of the Leisure Centre bridge
I do not know what will happen (well I do really – they will fight) when/if our dad finds the other two but at the moment he is too busy getting food near to the nesting site for the 4 babies.
I have not seen the Teenager Dabchicks from the first brood for some time, I have no indication that anything has happened to them so I think they have just flown somewhere else, perhaps to get away from the the adult Dabchicks who do not want them around when they are bringing up their second brood – its tough being wildlife as they have to look after themselves after only being a few weeks old.
Our 4 babies are still doing well and seem to go for a wander about in the mornings up to Cogglesford Mill corner with mum and dad. The 7 baby Tuffties and mum are also still doing well
