Life On The Slea (LOTS)

Have we still got 3 baby Moorhens near the Mill – YES we have They are getting a lot bigger but they do stray much too near the weir for my liking, I just hope none go over. There was a Duckling below the weir today so I assume that must have gone over the weir, if I thought I could catch it I would have waded in but they can go so fast when in water to get away so I didnt have a hope of catching it, I just hope it survives but I doubt it I know Ducklings feed themselves so do not need mum for that and the nights are not that cold, but mum can keep them a lot safer than when they are on their own, also when the duckling is small it needs its mum to rub up against to get the oils that keep it water proof as the duckling doesn’t produce this straight away, but I am unsure at what size/age this need diminishes.

The baby Coot is also still doing well as can be seen here..

…its just a shame we only have the 1.
