A surprise today….. there was a DABCHICK on the Slea, just the one but this is how it went last year and eventually 2 did nest by late June early July.
At almost the same time as I saw the Dabchick I also saw a Water Vole
The baby Coot and 3 baby Moorhens are still doing well but they are getting much bigger
Baby Starling from today…

…they seem to give their Mum and Dad such a hard time ?

Hi Terry,
Just to let you know I saw the Dabchick on Monday but it seemed to disappear soon after. But.. This morning I saw 2 Dabchicks in close proximity. I just hope they are a pair and decide to stay. I also saw the Coot Chick sitting on the discarded ‘Panda Bear’ in the river which would have been a good photo opportunity. Only saw a couple of the Moorhen chicks but I was not looking too hard for them.
Regards
Hi Graham, thanks very much for the update
I have removed the location of the possible nest site from your post – hope you do not mind
Its going very much like the last couple of years where 1 Dabchick comes back, disapears and then 2 arrive – lets hope they do stay and nest.
“I also saw the Coot Chick sitting on the discarded ‘Panda Bear’ in the river” – LOL – just for anyone wondering, there is a ‘Cuddly Toy’ Panda Bear that has found its way into the river and is lodged against some vegetation so not moving downstream at all at the moment.
