No sign of ‘one eye’ today…

No sign of ‘one eye’ today all 9 ducklings are still ok though Also saw ‘stiff legs’, ‘Lucky’, 2 dabchicks and the 2 Coots. The Coots were chasing Moorhens away from what I suspect will be their nest site. Hoping to start a ‘Starling Appreciation Society’ but this was taken in my backgarden and...

Duckling update then possibly some disturbing news…

First the update, Alan rang me on Saturday to say that we were now down to 10 ducklings and the Dabchicks hadn’t been seen for a few days. It would not surprise me if the dabchicks vanished as they did the same at the beginning of April last year, to return later and breed,...

We have another lot of…

We have another lot of Ducklings, 14 in all… …although someone said there were originally 15 on Sunday. So have ‘at most’ lost just the 1, ‘so far so good’ but I just hope it doesn’t get too cold for them. I saw ‘one eye’ this morning and his bad eye looks much worse...

I think we have lost all the…

I think we have lost all the ducklings I have been told that there were 7 still around yesterday, but today we did not see any. After looking around we saw what we believed was ‘mum’ but without any ducklings, our only hope is that we misidentified her and she was somewhere else with...

We are down to 10, but it could so easily have been…

We are down to ten, but it could have so easily been 9 – ducklings that is. I counted 9 next to mum on the bank this morning and thought we had lost 4, but wandering downstream I saw another one on its own. This ‘singleton’ was trying to get upstream which was where...

Just a quick trip…

Just a very quick trip down the Slea today to try and see the Ducklings that Graham mentioned in his last comment. I found them… … but could not count how many have survived (I was told there were 13 originally). I just hope they can survive the bad storm we are supposed to...

Surprise, surprise, they have…

Surprise surprise, they (?) have removed (chopped up) the tree that fell, about a week ago, across the Slea and footpath just past the Mill. Nothing much happening today, I did see just the 1 Coot, 3 Dabchicks, One Eye (without his lady friend) and Lucky so I only missed Stiff Legs Water Voles...
