We still have 5 dabchicks between the Hub and Mill
From observations I believe one ‘pair’ believe their territory to be from the Mill upstream to the Leisure Centre Bridge, also 1 ‘pair’ seem to have from this bridge up to about the New Street Bridge area. The problem for this last pair is that their territory doesn’t have anywhere to really nest safely, so I think they are trying to extend their territory about 100yds downstream of the LC bridge to include an area with reasonably dense reeds. If this is what they are trying to do I hope they succeed because then we have have 2 pairs safely nest this year on our stretch of the Slea.
I saw our lone duckling yesterday so he is still going strong. Here is a picture this morning of a Jackdaw taking some bread away…
