The bad weather has meant that I have not been down the Slea as often as normal, but today Alan told me that he and Mell saw 5 Dabchicks between the Hub and Mill and 2 way down past the Railway bridge, so 7 Dabs are still around
Someone (I assume the Navigation Trust) has chopped a small bush down that grew out into the river near the Hub, this is in the area where the winding (turning) hole will be for boats
This bush is actually one place where our Dabchicks actually nested last year, what these people NEVER seem to realise is that there is hardly any places for Dabchicks/Coots/Moorhens to nest between the Hub and the Leisure Centre bridge, and now one of the few that we had has gone
I believe it is also because there are now no nesting sites on our stretch of the Slea suitable for Swans that we have not had any resident swans for 2-3 years
Here is Mrs Blackie…

Hi Terry, I too saw 5 Dabchicks on the main part of the Slea yesterday but my reason for posting a comment is to let you know I saw a single Coot (Monday 14th) and again today (Friday 18th) – similar area as we saw earlier this month. Regards Graham
Hi Graham, thanks for the update, I hope the Coot stays a while this time
