Mainly looking if the 3 Dabs are still around…

Today I was mainly looking if the 3 Dabchicks were still around downstream of the railway bridge past Cogglesford Mill. On the way I saw the Heron and 2 Kingfishers, then there was a ‘whoosh’ ‘whoosh’ over head which was the 3 Swans coming back to the Slea and then I saw the 3 Dabchicks […]

Dabchick city :)

The Slea is becoming ‘Dabchick city’ 🙂 Alan and I saw all 5 Dabchicks between the Hub and the Mill this morning, then Mel told us what he had seen past the Mill, so all 3 of us went down stream of the Mill, under the railway bridge and along further until we saw THREE […]

Our lone duckling is…

Our lone duckling is growing well, you can see in this (bad) picture that he/she is getting rid of some of its downy feathers and replacing them with proper ones… …also saw 4 Dabchicks, stiff-legs and one-eye,  but otherwise very quiet at the moment. Just thought, the pond in Lollycocks field is filling quite well […]

Although the weather was bad today I just had too see if…

Although the weather was bad today I just had to see if the lone duckling survived the last 2 cold nights and I am happy to say that he/she did 🙂 No other news from the Slea because of the weather so I am once again going to get into my bad habit of showing […]

No swans today but…

No swans today but Kingfisher, 2 x Stonechats, Heron, Fieldfare, 3 x Dabchicks, lone duckling, robin/blackbird etc and this Chaffinch… …so it wasn’t a bad day :)  Hope the duckling survives the next 2 nights which are supposed to be below freezing ( I think he/she will :)   ) Terry

The swans were not around again and then….

The swans were not around again and then they were  :)   because all 3 of them flew right over us downstream of Cogglesford Mill and landed on the Slea. Also saw 4 Dabchicks and the lone duckling who does look a little lonesome as there are no other ducklings his/her size to go around with. […]

Apparantly the swans…

Apparantly the swans were here yesterday but they were not around this morning.  I did see the lone duckling and 4 Dabchicks but otherwise everything is a little quiet at the moment. Here is an unusual shot of a swan on the Slea a while ago… 🙂 Terry

I didn’t go…

I didn’t go down the Slea yesterday because of the weather (rain) and it looks like I might not be able to today also so here is a piccy of one of our Dabchicks taken the other day… …if there is a break in the weather and I go down I will alter this post […]

I am getting into a BAD habit..

I do not have any new images from the Slea so I feel I am getting into a bad habit by posting images NOT from the Slea like these Whooper Swans at sunset, taken at Welney on Thursday… …it was a gorgeous sunset 🙂 Back to the Slea, the Swans are back. I was just […]

No Swans today…

I was at Welney yesterday so didn’t check out the Slea but today there are no Swans.  I did see the little duckling and 4 Dabchicks, although from what someone else said I think there may actually still be 5 but until I see all 5 in one ‘pass’ I cannot confirm. Here is a […]

Interesting day…

I had my usual walk today and saw the Kingfisher, 3 Dabchicks and the little duckling 🙂 and then went home. Then I received a call from Alan telling me that these were on the Slea… … I took a closeup of the LHS bill patterns and compared them to earlier photographs and I believe […]

The Moorhens are…

The Moorhens are fighting quite a bit at the moment… …apart from the normal territory fights the parents of this years youngsters are trying to ‘persuade’ them to leave so that they can mate again in the Spring. Only saw 4 dabchicks today plus the one past the Mill, so 2 have possibly gone ??? […]

I have been…

I have been photographing Swans and Geese up in Scotland for a few days so no new photos of wildlife on the Slea today so I thought I would show my close encounter with a wild Scottish badger… …back to the Slea, first the bad news is that we have lost all the young ducklings […]

Sadly we seem to have just…

Sadly we seem to have just 1 duckling left :(  This one was cheeping up and down the river today probably looking for his ‘mate’.  I don’t think the weather will have got the other one so its a bit of a mystery as to what has happened, but while there were 2 they could […]
