Yesterday I was worried all day about the Ducklings because I didn’t go down the Slea and went to Welney to photograph hundreds of swans instead. I wondered if they had survived the very cold night, but today I saw all 4
so they have made it through 2 more nights, this give hope that they may make it but we still do not want any frosts in the next few weeks. I didn’t see mum again but hope she still keeps the Ducklings warm during the night.
I also saw 6 Dabchicks and a seventh below the weir at Cogglesford Mill
The pond in Lollycocks field is being drained so that it can be cleared and Mel indicated to Alan and I that he had seen a Water rail on the pond edge, these are similar to Moorhens but very secretive and its the first one I have seen on my wanderings along the Slea. The Water rail earlier today…
