I didn’t go down the Slea at the weekend so I was very happy to still see 2 ducklings this morning. Tonight is cold so if they survive tonight I don’t think they will succumb to the weather as long as its not really freezing. Mum is not seen with the ducklings any more and they do not ‘cheap’ for her, so they are on their own, at least with 2 they can keep each other warm and they do seem very attached to each other.
I saw only 4 Dabchicks again so I am just starting to wonder if we still have 6 or if any have ‘flown’. I now cannot positively identify our youngster from the others but I just feel that he/she is one of the ones remaining. ? I also saw the other Dabchick down near the railway past Cogglesford Mill.

Hi Terry
Just to let you know I saw 6 dabchicks this afternoon but have failed to see the water rail yet – assume it has flown.
Regards Graham
Thanks for the info about the Dabs Graham, its good to know all 6 are still on the Slea. The Water Rail was in Lollycocks pond but today they have fenced it off to start their dredging operations, so it may well have flown ?
