Did the Ducklings survive the coooooold night…. again there were 3 ducklings and mum down the Old Slea weir just as yesterday, again I hoped they would get back to the Slea all on their own. Again I didnt see them actually do it but mum and 3 ducklings got back themselves but it looked like we had lost 2 ducklings (but read on) during the cold night. After the usual walk along the Slea, Alan saw mum and the ducklings on the opposite bank and he counted FIVEÂ
so all 5 did survive the nightÂ
I just hope they do again tonight and tomorrow night.
The sun was shining this morning and the Dabchicks were out warming their backs in their usual manner – except we counted SEVEN Dabchicks. Alan and I have had suspicions that we have seen 6 Dabchicks recently but could not count all 6 in one pass and therefore couldnt be 100% sure. But today they were easily counted and happily we have seven. That doesnt mean that all 7 will stay as they still do fight a bit, but lets hope. No one can be sure, but it would be nice if the dabchicks that have recently appeared were the young ones from last year or the year before returning ‘home’ ?
Today one of our ducklings did a wing flex which I thought was quite cute…
