Dabchicks: I am now 100% certain…

Dabchicks: I am now 100% certain I dont understand what is going on :) I regularly see 1 adult upstream of the LC bridge and 2 downstream of it, then I will see 2 adults upstream and 1 downstream, so all I can think of is that we have 4 different adult Dabchicks who are at various times spending a little time away from the Slea. This is just a guess and I will continue to monitor them in the hope of understanding properly.

The young Dabchick has had me worried over the last 2 days, yesterday afternoon I could not find him/her. Alan and I this morning both walked from Cogglesford Mill to the Hub and back twice and again did not see him/her. This afternoon I found him/her near to the Hub :) its parents were nearby they didn’t seem to take much notice of each other, so perhaps the hard time the parents have been giving the young one has finally made it independent as I am sure it was ment to.

I also saw a 1-2 day old family of Ducklings near the Mill, I just hope it is not too cold over the next couple of weeks otherwise they may well perish.

Todays photo is of 2 Moorhen siblings, from different broods, sharing a rest in the nest together…
