I saw all 4…

I saw all 4 Dabchicks today so none of these 4 have left yet, this means that so far only 1 adult parent has left the Slea to go somewhere else for the winter. I also ‘found’ the 2 young Moorhens and parents that I didn’t see yesterday, who are normally between the Mill...

Of the 4 dabchicks only saw the…

Of the 4 Dabchicks I only saw the youngster today, I looked very hard for the others without success, so I don’t know if they have gone or were just hiding. I saw the young Moorhen near the Leisure Centre but didnt see anything of the 2 youngsters or parents past the Mill, I...

I was reading about Kingfishers, which might explain…

Good news and bad news…

Good news and bad news… over the last 3 days I have only seen 1 of the 2 young Moorhens near the Leisure Centre and not seen any of the 2 that are also normally downstream of the Mill. The bad news is that I am now sure we have lost 1 from near...

Forget what I said in the previous post…

Forget what I said in the previous post, after watching the Dabchicks yesterday and today I now think there is now just 1 parent still around and the other 2 adults are most probably the pair that were attacked a couple of weeks ago. The youngster is still doing well. Sadly I have not...

I think I know what is happening…

I think I know what is happening with the Dabchicks, but first, yesterday I saw 3 of the 4 ducklings but I didn’t see any today, I am not going to think the worst unless I do not see them again the next time I go down the Slea. Now the Dabchicks, I think,...

4 ducklings survived the night…

4 ducklings survived the night which was quite cold. I am not sure how many there were yesterday but I think 5 or 6 The next couple of nights are supposed to be reasonable and then cold again, I just hope ‘mum’ keeps them warm. In a comment Angie said she would like to...

Dabchicks: I am now 100% certain…

Dabchicks: I am now 100% certain I dont understand what is going on I regularly see 1 adult upstream of the LC bridge and 2 downstream of it, then I will see 2 adults upstream and 1 downstream, so all I can think of is that we have 4 different adult Dabchicks who are...

A little bit of self promotion…

A little bit of self promotion… I entered 4 photos into the BBC Country File photo competition ‘All creatures great and small’. 12 pictures are selected to be voted on by the public, via their web site. I received a call from a very nice lady at Country File to discuss my ‘Whoopers at...

A conundrum …

A conundrum …

A conundrum … yesterday and today I have seen our little dabchick with 1 of the parents, however further downstream at Cogglesford Mill there is now also another 2 adult Dabchicks. Without any more evidence it seems to me that the most likely scenario is that the 2 adult Dabchicks near the Mill are...
