One of the baby Dabchicks is getting a bit of a pecking from at least one of the parents. I assume this is the same reason that Moorhens and Coots do something similar, they peck a/the youngster(s) to try and stop them begging for food, this means that they get a little hungry and learn how to catch little fish etc themselves.
Our family went down to the reeds where the ‘new’ pair had nested again today but the ‘new’ pair were not there, I did actually see one of the ‘new’ pair a little downstream but I didn’t see the other.
One of the ‘teenager’ Moorhens was scaling one of the stays to the ‘sail’ near the Hub…
