We still have 3 adult…

Although we are down to only 1 surviving baby Dabchick we still have 3 adults, namely our 2 parents and 1 of the ‘new’ pair is still around but has been chased by our parents on a number of occasions, it would be nice if he/she stayed though. The 3 baby Moorhens are still...

I think we have lost another…

I think we have lost another baby Dabchick   I know that at 5:30pm last night all was well, but Alan and I could only find 1 baby Dabchick and the 2 parents today, even after walking from the Hub to Cogglesford Mill twice.  We did see the 2 adults leave the baby behind...

One of the baby Dabchicks is…

One of the baby Dabchicks is getting a bit of a pecking from at least one of the parents. I assume this is the same reason that Moorhens and Coots do something similar, they peck a/the youngster(s) to try and stop them begging for food, this means that they get a little hungry and...

I tried but failed, Dabchick update and unusual visitor…

I tried but failed… I sudden noise from near the Hub sent all the birds in the trees up in the air, a pigeon that seemed ready to fledge in the next few days couldn’t make it too the other side of the river and fell in, it struggled but could do nothing abouts...

I am unsure exactly what has happened…

I am unsure at the moment exactly what has happened with the Dabchicks. It was drizzling today so some of the wildlife was hidden away just resting which made things hard to fathom. Anyway as I walked upstream past where out ‘new’ Dabs had nested I saw 2 adult Dabchicks, at this time I...

August 20, 2007

Why did the Dabs do this… I went down the Slea again this afternoon (see previous post for this mornings report and video clip) just to see how the little Dabs were getting on. There was no sign of them but I wasnt worried because I thought they may be down near Quackers which...

All quiet…

August 20, 2007

All quiet on the Slea this morning. The 2 baby Dabchicks were with one of the parents while the other parent was near Quackers where I think he/she is thinking of building a nest/rest. I only saw one of the 2 ‘new’ Dabs who seemed to be ‘on guard’ so hopefully the other one...

I am an annual visitor to Sleaford, my daughter, Nicola, lives there. I live on the Isle of Man. I am,though, a daily visitor to your web-site. I have to tell you, I think it is wonderful! I’ve been holding my breath for the dabchicks saga! The little video too was most enjoyable....
