Dabchicks and Kingfisher…

Dabchicks and Kingfisher…. I saw 2 Dabchicks today and they were building a nest :) it is in what I would call a little bit of a potentially hazardous position, however I really hope they can bring up a family there this year, if they do this will be the third year in a row that Dabchicks have bred on this stretch of the Slea. I have also told the Navigation Trust about the new nest site so that if they have any work planned that would disturb the Dabchicks they can rearrange it for after the nesting season, this in my view should always be done anyway.

I also saw a Kingfisher for the first time in weeks.

The last duck that I look out for is ‘one eye’ who can be seen here…

…he is a bit whiter here than normal as he is in his molt. His right eye is very cloudy (I assume cataracts) so can only see out of his left eye, which means that he has to be VERY careful as a dog can easily sneak up on him without him noticing, with potentially deadly results :( Â He always has that small white tuft on the back of his head so he is very easy to recognise.
