YEAH… Alan saw the first Dabchick on the Slea since 5th April today and here he/she is…

…I also saw the Dabchick which went from the New Street bridge all the way to Cogglesford bend. I wonder if he/she is looking for a nesting site and whether he/she has a mate, perhaps all will become clear in a couple of days. This sighting is almost a month earlier than the first Dabchick sighting on the Slea last year.
Everyone else was ‘present and correct’
and I can also confirm that there are 7 baby moorhens in the second brood of the family just upstream of the Coots and not six. Ah the ‘Coots’ – I hope I am not tempting fate but the Coots, although not ‘docile’, seemed to be a little less aggressive today, lets hope that remains so.
