What are they upto… First some GOOD news, we have a pair of Dabchicks who are building a nest

Now for ‘What are they upto’– I saw 2 ladies in an inflatable dingy, I asked them to try and be careful because of nest sites etc, and it transpired they were doing a wildlife survey so they obviously should know what they are doing. I asked who the survey was for and the reply was ‘Sleaford Navigation Trust’, well this WORRIES me because they must be thinking of doing some work, probably to the proposed ‘winding hole’ or New Street bridge. Now WHY should anyone want to do this sort of work during the nesting season, all I can think of is because they just do not realise what impact this could have on wildlife, I just hope the ‘survey’ points this out. What makes this potentially disastrous is that the nesting Dabchicks are only a couple of yards away from one of these building projects and will almost certainly be scared off if work commences in the next 6-8 weeks. Even these 2 ladies, doing the wildlife survey, put their inflatable in the water only a couple of feet away from the Dabchicks nest, so they may have been scared off already ???? but I will have a look over the weekend to see if they are still around.
