Technically the Slea has burst its banks…

Technically the Slea has burst its banks as can be seen by this photo from near Quackers…

… after last nights rains the River is the highest I have ever seen it and nobody I spoke to could ever remember it being this high before, I just hope it doesn’t rain again this afternoon. Most of the Moorhens nests that I know about look to be coping well with the increased levels and more rapid flow. It may also be a blessing in disguise that the Dabchicks (more on these later) are not already sitting on their nest as in my limited experience, most Dabchicks nest quite precariously on a small shallow nest.

I am still not sure what is going on with the Dabchicks, the nest they originally had near the Bridge may well be unusable at the moment, although that doesn’t mean the will not use it when the levels go down. I only saw one Dabchick this morning and I am unsure why the other was not around ??? I will keep my eye on ‘them’ to see if I can work out what is happening.
