We have a baby…

As Graham mentioned we do have at least 1 baby coot…

…not a very good photo but lets hope it survives. Today I also saw the baby Moorhen which is very near the baby coot, this worries me a little as the male coot is very aggressive and the baby moorhen will have to keep its distance to survive. I also saw the 3 now ‘teenager’ moorhens just a little upstream, there is also 2 more baby moorhens in a nest just a little more upstream. As previously stated I think there are now only 5 baby moorhens near the LC bridge but they are getting so big they can be called ‘teenagers’ also. Disappointingly I could only see 3 baby moorhens near the doctors, there were 6 originally. I also saw all 4 coots that Graham mentioned in his comment, it would be nice if the 3rd and 4th were male and female and got together.

Terry for your information I have just walked up the river and there are a pair of Tufted Ducks on the pond. Additionally there are now 2 Coot chicks up at the Mill, the parent left the nest briefly to scare off a Moorhen and left them exposed on the nest. (Friday 25th at 09:55)
Regards Graham

Thanks Graham, that is 2 bits of good news :) If it stops raining I might have a wander down there to take a look also :)
