I fear for the female coot near Cogglesford, the other Coot who’s territory is upstream of Cogglesford bend twice this morning went downstream to attack the female. The second attack was particular vicious and it appeared that the intruder was trying to drown the female. Interestingly a Mallard joined in and then (as also mentioned in a previous post) the Moorhens started to attack the intruder while not touching the female, just as though they realise who their ‘friends’ are. This is 1 of the Moorhens attacking the intruding Coot…

There are still 4 baby Moorhens in one family and 7 in the other
I think I forgot to mention that in the last few days I have seen 2 water voles (it may have been the same one ?) which is good to know that we havn’t lost all of them.
